The English curriculum is set up as five units. The overarching themes of each unit are: Dreams, Looking Back, Shakespeare, The Road Not Taken, and Leaving a Legacy.
The Units will have one Essential Question to answer, which will be done as a culminating activity at the end (essay, speech, etc). Students will use the knowledge they have gained throughout the unit and mediums to support their answers.
Each unit will encompass many elements of Language Arts: different forms of writing, poetry, grammar, listening, short stories, class novels, and speaking/presentation skills.
In addition, students will be responsible for always having a free reading book with them, and will have assignments related to those books (bookmarks). The students will be responsible for turning in 7 or 8 bookmarks per quarter (Seven in Quarters 1 and 4, eight in Quarters 2 and 3). One bookmark is equivilant to 150 pages. Students should spend no less than 30 minutes per day reading.
